3 Days of Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Uganda

Overview

Nestled in southwestern Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park offers an enchanting landscape of hilly countryside and remnant lowland forests. This park is home to half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas, numbering over 800 globally. Beyond gorilla tracking, Bwindi also features hiking trails rich in birdlife and other primates, as well as a sanctuary for elephants, chimpanzees, monkeys, and small antelopes. The park spans 331 square kilometers of montane and lowland forests, accessible only on foot.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Journey to Bwindi with Equator Stopover

  • Departure: Head out for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
  • Midday: Pause at the Equator for a photo opportunity and some exploration
  • Lunch: Take a break for lunch in Mbarara
  • Arrival: Continue the journey and check into your overnight accommodation in Bwindi

Day 2 – Gorilla Tracking Experience

  • Morning: Arrive at the briefing center for guidelines and instructions
  • Tracking: Transportation will be provided to the tracking starting point. Duration varies between 1-8 hours based on the gorilla family’s location
  • Overnight: Return to your accommodation in Bwindi for rest and relaxation

Day 3 – Return to Kampala

  • Breakfast: Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your lodging
  • Departure: Begin the journey back to Kampala
