Itinerary

Day 1 – Kigali Discoveries & Journey to Volcanoes National Park

  • Morning: Savour breakfast before embarking on a Kigali city expedition. Discover the poignant stories at the Genocide memorial sites and indulge in local culture at the African craft markets.
  • Afternoon: Set course for the captivating Volcanoes National Park.
  • Evening: Arrive at Parc Des Volcans by dusk. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner and recline at your choice of the Virunga Volcanoes Lodge, Sabinyo Silver Back Lodge, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Kinigi Guest House, or Hotel Muhabura.

Day 2 – Gorilla Mystique

  • Morning: Post-breakfast, head to the ORTPN Offices. After a briefing, begin your trek with expert rangers guiding your path.
  • Mid-Day: As you traverse the bamboo forests, anticipate the rustling that signals the presence of these magnificent gorillas. Revel in an hour-long immersive experience with these gentle giants.
  • Afternoon: After your trek, enjoy lunch and later explore the scenic twin lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera.
  • Evening: Dine and rest at one of the aforementioned lodges or guest houses.

Day 3 – Golden Monkey Magic & Tribute to Dian Fossey

  • Morning: Start with a hearty breakfast. Assemble at the ORTPN Offices for a rangers’ briefing and then embark on a trek to spot the rare golden monkeys – a gem unique to Rwanda.
  • Afternoon: Return for lunch at the lodge. Post-lunch, take a poignant journey to the gravesite of Dian Fossey, the renowned gorilla researcher. Delve into stories of her legacy and her pivotal role in gorilla conservation during this 3-hour trek.
  • Evening: Return for dinner and a restful night at your chosen accommodation.

Day 4 – Farewell to the Forests

  • Morning: After breakfast, take a brief tour around Ruhengeri, capturing the essence of this region.
  • Afternoon: Traverse back to Kigali, arriving just in time for lunch.
  • Conclusion: Depending on your plans, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Kigali or ushered to the airport for your onward journey. Safe travels!
