Embark on a 12-day immersive journey through Uganda, the sanctuary of some of Africa’s most fascinating primates. From the moment you touch down in Entebbe, this adventure promises an in-depth exploration of Uganda’s diverse ecosystems, all teeming with wildlife and bursting with natural beauty. Venture into Mabira Central Forest Reserve, a haven for birdwatchers and butterfly enthusiasts. Track chimpanzees in the primate-rich Kibale National Park and explore the unique ecosystems of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the once-in-a-lifetime gorilla tracking experience in the dense forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Add to this a scenic walk in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Golden Monkey tracking, and you’ve got a primate paradise tour that’s as comprehensive as it is captivating. Optional excursions at the end of the tour provide a perfect closure, making this a truly unforgettable Ugandan wildlife adventure.
Land at Entebbe International Airport, where your Ugandan primate adventure begins. If time allows, we’ll explore the lush Entebbe Botanical Gardens for a soft introduction to the region’s primate species.
Following an early breakfast, we’ll journey 54km east of Kampala to explore Mabira Forest Reserve. This forest spans 306 square kilometers and is a haven for butterflies and over 200 species of birds.
Start your day with an early breakfast, then set off for Kibale National Park. We’ll pause for lunch in Fort Portal before resuming our trip, taking in the forest views, birdwatching, and primate-spotting along the way. Kibale boasts Uganda’s richest primate diversity, including 13 species such as chimpanzees.
After another early breakfast, we’ll gather for a briefing to prepare for the day’s exhilarating chimpanzee tracking activity. Kibale is also home to other primate species like the L’Hoest monkey and red colobus monkey.
An early start takes us to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where we’ll embark on a forest walk in Maramagambo Forest.
Today offers a choice between spending another morning with the chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge or embarking on a game drive along the Kasenyi Trail. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel.
After breakfast, we’ll spend the day driving to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. With no activities planned, it’s a day to relax at our lodge, gearing up for the once-in-a-lifetime gorilla tracking experience.
Fuel up with an early breakfast before meeting for a tracking briefing. We’ll spend anywhere from a couple to several hours in the forest, depending on the gorillas’ movements.
We’ll head to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, arriving just in time for an afternoon scenic walk amidst beautiful mountain flowers and plants.
Post-breakfast, we’ll set off to track Golden monkeys. Along the way, keep an eye out for other primate species as well as forest elephants and giant forest hogs.
We’ll make our way back to Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Today offers optional visits to the Entebbe Wildlife Education Center and Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Depending on your flight schedule, you may choose to depart today or stay an extra night for your journey home the next day.
